So, the Frigibax Community Day is finally here.
Honestly, I’ve been waiting for an Ice-type dragon like this for a while. Here’s the interesting part.
It’s rare to see a dual-type that balances bulk with speed, and the hype around this event is totally justified.
Whether you are trying to complete your Pokedex or just want a powerful Dragon-type for your team, this is the one event you can’t miss this month.
Let’s break down exactly how to make the most of it, because three hours is actually a long time when you know what you’re doing.
What is the Frigibax Community Day?
It’s basically a three-hour window where Frigibax appears more frequently in the wild.
That’s the basics, right? But what you might not know is that the spawns are boosted significantly, meaning you can probably catch two or three in the time it usually takes to find one.
Also, during this specific event, you get the exclusive move ‘Ice Punch’ if you evolve Arctibax.
That is the big selling point.
Most people just catch them and ignore the move, which is a huge mistake if you care about competitive play.
If you are in the Northern Hemisphere, try to get outside as soon as it starts; I’ve noticed spawns are a bit more active in the morning hours.
Evolution Times & Early Evolution
This is where the real trick lies.
Normally, to get Arctibax, you have to walk two kilometers with Frigibax as your buddy.
But during Community Day, you get 3x Stardust and, crucially, 3 hours of ‘early evolution time.’ That means you can evolve your Frigibax into Arctibax with just 7km instead of 2km. Now think about that for a second.
So, grab a friend who is online, buddy up, walk them to 7km, and boom—you have an Arctibax that will learn Ice Punch.
- Normal Evolution: 2km
- Community Day Evolution: 7km (Same distance, but quicker)
- Bonus: 3 hours of early evolution time for all Frigibax
But here is a small detail people often overlook: you can’t evolve it right there in the grass.
You actually have to hit the ‘Evolve’ button, and then walk.
If you don’t have enough candy for the full evolution yet, you can walk 7km to get the bonus candy boost, then evolve. Now think about that for a second.
It’s a little finicky, but totally doable.
I tried it myself yesterday and it works like a charm.
Shiny Hunting Tips
Shiny Frigibax looks pretty good.
I personally think the blue coloring pops a lot more than the standard orange.
The shiny rate for Community Days is usually about 1 in 25, which isn’t terrible.
However, shiny rates in Pokémon GO are notoriously random.
You might walk an hour and find nothing, or you might find three in twenty minutes.
It happens.
My advice? Use an Incense.
It stacks with Lure Modules, so if you have one of those magnetic items on your PokeStop, you’re golden.
Also, keep an eye on the radar.
Sometimes you’ll see a huge spawn point appear, and that’s usually where the shiny is hiding.
It’s not a guarantee, but it definitely increases your odds of running into one.
Best Movesets for Frigibax
When you finally have your shiny Frigibax, what are you going to do with it? Well, Ice Punch is great, but don’t sleep on the second move slot.
During the event, you’ll have the chance to teach it ‘Twister’ if you use an Elite Charge TM.
Now, ‘Twister’ isn’t the strongest move in the game, but it has a little bit of Dragon typing, which makes Frigibax a dual Dragon/Ice attacker.
That can be useful in specific niche battles where you need resistances against Fire or Grass types.
For PvE (Raids and Gym battles), Ice Punch is your bread and butter.
It hits super effectively on Ground, Grass, and Flying types.
It’s not going to be a top-tier PVP attacker, but for catching stuff in the wild or doing lower-tier Raids, it’s perfectly fine.
Most people just keep the legacy move they already have, but if you have the resources, giving it a second move is never a bad idea.
What to Bring to the Event
Don’t go empty-handed.
I made that mistake once last season and it was a pain.
First, grab some Razz Berries.
Frigibax is a little jittery sometimes, and you don’t want it getting away.
Second, if you have spare Raid Passes, use them.
The spawn rates are high enough that you can probably clear a few easy Raid bosses during the event.
If you are a hardcore hunter, make sure your apps are ready.
Sometimes the screen lags if you have too many trackers open.
It’s annoying, but better to be prepared.
And hey, bring a friend.
Pokémon is more fun with other people, even if you’re just standing in the same park catching the same thing.
Is the Frigibax Community Day Worth It?
This is the million-dollar question, right? If you love Ice-types, absolutely.
Frigibax evolves into Baxcalibur eventually, which is a massive powerhouse in the meta game right now.
If you don’t have a Baxcalibur yet, you need to start with the baby.
The Community Day is the only reliable way to get that Ice Punch move.
Without it, the stat boost feels a bit wasted.
So, if you are even remotely interested in competitive battling, you should participate.
It’s a great way to fill a hole in your team roster.
One last thing: after the event ends, you’ll still have the move Ice Punch available for a limited time, but you’ll need to use a TM to teach it.
So, if you miss the event window, don’t panic.
You can still get it later, but you’ll miss out on the candy bonuses and the shiny odds.
So, get out there and catch ’em all.
I’m heading out now to find my shiny, wish me luck!
